Jennifer Lehr is the author of PARENTSPEAK: What's Wrong with How We Talk to Our Children—And What to Say Instead, a parenting guide hailed by Dr. Laura Markham as "insightful, refreshing and radical in its respect for children" a sentiment echoed by Alfie Kohn, one of the authors and intellectuals Lehr most admires, who noted, that her work "offers a substantive and subversive message of respect for kids."

PARENTSPEAK was excerpted in The Wall Street Journal where it was one of the top five most read article for ten days. It went on to become #14 on Amazon's Best Seller list and has been translated into Arabic, Spanish and Czech.

PHILOSOPHY

Lehr's approach to parenting has been predominantly influenced by the work of Dr. Thomas Gordon, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, Alfie Kohn, Dr. Emmi Pikler and  Magda Gerber.

 

Lehr believes that from the moment a human is born, they are fully sentient beings with their own experiences, thoughts, and feelings. As such, they are deserving of the same level of respect and consideration as anyone else.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

However, because children are dependent on us adults to advocate for them, and yet it is our minds they would be fighting to change. And so it falls on us to examine our own privileged per- spective and positions of power in order to shift our own thinking.
